AML – Course Overview

It is essential that all staff understand the importance of:

  • Identifying their clients via ID checks
  • How to spot suspicious activity
  • Being alert to possible money laundering

This course gives an overview of the roles and responsibilities of both employer and employee in deterring, detecting and disrupting money laundering, in order to reduce the risk of money laundering activities being the source of funds for criminal and terrorist activity in the UK.

Once you have completed the course and passed the quiz, you will be able to download your AML certificate.

This training is updated annually and should be carried out by staff every year.

If, however, you change job role, or you have a new starter in your team – best practice is to provide them with AML training as soon as they start employment.

Your role is not to understand all the ways that money laundering takes place. HOWEVER, your role IS to alert your Nominated Officer or Money Laundering Reporting Officer to any suspicions you may have about a client or transaction.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe what money laundering is and how it applies to the UK property industry
  • List the appropriate laws that are relevant to money laundering in the UK
  • Explain your role in being alert to potential scenarios when dealing with customers and remain compliant when carrying out AML checks
  • Understand your employer’s role in a risk based anti-money laundering policy
  • Explain the importance of due diligence and understand where enhanced due diligence may be necessary
  • Describe politically exposed persons
