Course Overview

As a manager, a good understanding of general law is essential. Whether you are dealing with complaints about breach of contract or ending contracts or have an issue under the Equality Act or Health and Safety, you should have a good level of understanding of the general legal obligations that all businesses have.

As an estate agent, you should understand the main ways that the laws you follow are created, as you are obliged to act within the law – whether that is making sure a gas safety check is carried out on time OR that your terms of business (contract) are signed with your Seller or Landlord.

This course gives you an overview of General Law (civil and criminal law, contract and civil law), The Equality Act, Health and Safety Act (as an employer) and your obligations under Common Law.

What you will learn

• Basic understanding of facts about the legal system in England and Wales which underpin legislation pertaining to property agencies
• Basic knowledge of contract law, negligence and the laws of torts
• Knowledge and understanding of the principles underlying discrimination legislation
• Understand the benefits of equality and diversity in the workplace
•  Understand Health and Safety Legislation and the manager’s role in creating a safe workplace
