Course Overview

This course is designed for all property professionals, listers/valuers, property managers, managers and negotiators.

Understanding problems that may occur with a property helps us offer expert advice to buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants and position ourselves as trusted professional experts.

Understanding the core structure of a property and the possible problems, helps agents give the right advice on listing/valuation, where a sale is progressing, and where property management repairs are required.

What you will learn:

  • Understand how to identify common issues with property when carrying out a Market Appraisal
  • Understand how to identify property types, property styles and property ages and how they can be used for property description
  • Understand the key building defects mentioned in a survey and the language used to describe them
  • Understand the different types of standard and non-standard construction used in property and how this will affect the likelihood of a sale
  • Understand the different types of the following features of property structures and the common defects associated with them   – foundations/roofs/guttering/windows and doors/different types of damp and the possible remedies 
  • Understand the provision of utilities and services in a property and the information and checks required
  • Understand the implication of the presence of invasive plants, ie Japanese Knotweed and how to advise your Seller
  • The different types of dampness – rising, penetrating dampness, and condensation, and how to identify them

About Specialism Modules and Courses

Specialism courses are designed to offer progression knowledge.

This course is mandatory unit for CeSP – Level 3 Certificate in Sales Progression but is not included in the core Level 3 CePAP (Certificate in Property Advice & Practice or Level CeLAP (Certificate in Lettings Advice & Practice) qualifications.

Accredited by ABBE (Awarding Body of the Built Environment).

Specialism content is designed for those staff who wish to expand their knowledge in the wider procedures in estate agency and lettings and to support job role changes.
