Course Summary

This module covers all the key elements of compliance in the property industry, whether for sales or lettings. Key laws such as the Equality Act, Health and Safety, Data Protection, Anti Money Laundering and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Act 2024 (formerly the Consumer Protection Regulations) apply in all areas of our industry and also in the service industry as a whole.

We explain these in language we hope will relate to your job role, rather than just giving you the law itself. The benefit of understanding compliance well not only helps in terms of your professionalism, but protects your company’s interest where there could be a risk of fines or prison sentences!

The National Trading standards estate and lettings agency team has withdrawn its previous guidance around material information and the Consumer Protection Regulations now sit alongside the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 as of 2025. These laws ensure that there is a key obligation for all estate and lettings agents to disclose what is called Material Information. Material information is defined in the DMCC ACT (formerly CPRs)  as “information which the average consumer needs, according to the context, to make an informed transactional decision”.
